A 911 caller from Chamblee reported the abduction, and a man was shot dead in Decatur

Police shot dead a man east of Atlanta on Tuesday morning after following him from another village where kidnappings were reported, authorities said.

Police were told the suspect was in possession of a firearm, GBI said. They spotted a car in Chamblee, where it had tried to speed up, followed it into Decatur and tried to stop it. When officers managed to stop the car, the man jumped out and ran down the side of the train, GBI said.

Police tried to use a powerful shotgun on the man during the chase but the attempts "failed," GBI said.

The officers met the man on the railway line, "the statement said. During the altercation, police fired shots, hitting the man. "

A small firearm was found near the suspect, GBI said.  Hense taken to the hospital where doctors called him dead.

A few details have been released about the reported kidnapping, but GBI has said the abused man is safe. No officials were injured, the organization said.
