     Hurricane Yaas is likely to continue to be a "severe storm" and cross Odisha and the coast of West Bengal on May 26, India's Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.

     The Indian Navy said eight flood relief teams and four diving teams were set up in Odisha and West Bengal to expand existing facilities. It said four marine vessels had been set aside with humanitarian assistance and disaster relief equipment and a medical team.

Ten trains were canceled including trains from Chennai to Puri on Monday, Villupuram to Purlia on Wednesday, Villupuram to Kharagpur on Tuesday due to the approaching Cypone Yaas.

Storm Yaas: The Cabinet is concerned about timely steps for minor losses

     With Hurricane 'Yaas' expected to reach West Bengal and hit the northern part of Odisha on May 26 evening, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba emphasized that all measures should be taken in a timely manner to reduce human losses and property damage. (IANS)

NCMC reviews review for Hurricane Yaas, special focus on accessing Covid health facilities

     The National Disaster Management Committee (NCMC) chaired by Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba met on Saturday to review the readiness of Yaas Storm near the Bay of Bengal, with the country's chief executive directing various agencies to ensure the safety of COVID-19 patients, hospitals and oxygen plants.

Yaas Storm: Indian Naval ships, docking aircraft and rescue ops

In an official statement on Saturday, the Navy said four ships had been detained with Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR). Their bricks, demolition, and medical teams will also provide assistance in the worst-affected areas along the coast of Odisha and West Bengal

Storm Yaas: NDRF sends teams to 11 West Bengal regions

     The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Saturday deployed its troops in 11 West Bengal counties ahead of Hurricane Yaas.
